About Me

Hi, my name is Urja, and I am a registered Child-Parent, Adolescent and Adult Counsellor (NHCA, Singapore) and a Marriage Counsellor and Family Therapist. I am a psychotherapist and nutritionist in training and I have an experience of over 4 years in parent counselling and coaching, especially for those with neurodivergent kids. I have worked with clients from ages 4 to adults with a multitude of presenting issues such as developmental trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship and family issues, self-esteem and self-identity issues, neurodevelopmental disorders, and parenting concerns.

My experience is varied and across different settings, including group therapy, individual therapy and family therapy. I also have experience working with family systems dealing with relationships and attachment issues.

Though I am skilled in treating emotional and behavioural issues- including depression, trauma, anxiety, panic disorders, phobias, and family stressors- I believe what sets me apart is my ability to use my gift of insight and compassion in conjunction with my academic accomplishments and experience. I have a holistic approach to mental health therapy: mind, body, emotional and social factors. I focus on altering self-defeating behaviours and beliefs, helping my clients to gain perspective with a focus on improving the quality of their lives.

When working with my clients, I use imagery, metaphor, and humour to help them understand and internalise concepts that help them regain control over their lives. Clients often say they appreciate my ability to be authentic with them while simultaneously being sensitive, empathetic, and professional. I feel it is important to create a safe space for my clients to openly and honestly share their experiences, no matter the topic.

I believe that the most important work in therapy is the relationship. Establishing trust and solid communication is important and with that in mind, therapy is a collaborative process where I am here to help you set goals, provide support and offer insight. I also understand that my clients are relying on me for equally open and honest feedback, and I provide that in a gentle yet meaningful and actionable way.

Deciding to seek help is the first step and beginning therapy can be difficult. I will be here to work with you every step of the way and if you have additional questions for me, please do not hesitate to ask. I look forward to working with you.
